Welcome to the Cañada College Interior Design Program! We are pleased that you (both new and continuing students) are a part of the Interior Design Program, which has been educating and preparing students to successfully enter many aspects of the design profession for over 35 years. The Interior Design Program at Cañada College is held in high regard in the training of Interior Designers in the San Francisco Bay area. It is currently the only higher education program in interior design in San Mateo County, drawing students from all around the Greater San Francisco Bay area. The college is conveniently located in Redwood City, CA, midway between San Francisco and San Jose/Silicon Valley, easily accessible just off Interstate 280. This strategic location offers a wealth and variety of instructional and professional employment opportunities as well as internships for students. Areas of emphasis include Residential and Commercial Design Kitchen and Bath Design (endorsed by the National Kitchen and Bath Association) A newly introduced Certificate in Green/Sustainable Design Associates of Science degree in Interior Design Interior Design Core Certificate Transfer program The comprehensive curriculum, provides coverage in major areas of training, including concept and design development, communication, presentation, construction, and professional services and procedures. The goal of the program is to create a balanced education to meet the needs of today’s society. In addition to the basic principles of good design, consideration is given to the complexities of modern society including health and safety, performance, environmental concerns, barrier-free and code requirements as well as achieving comfort and aesthetic character in the built environment. The Kitchen and Bath Design Certificate is endorsed by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), and was the first 2 year program in the nation to receive this endorsement (1988). The program provides accredited learning which includes the minimum educational requirements for NCIDQ and CID (Certified Interior Designer) in California, as well as AKBD (Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer), CKD (Certified Kitchen Designer), and CBD (Certified Bath Designer). An active Student ASID Chapter provides a wealth of opportunities for students. Networking with professionals, attending many professional programs free of charge, and insight into the design profession are just some of these opportunities of which you are encouraged to take advantage.
